Please describe the interview process and assessments.
After applying for multiple jobs I found William Buck by far the most responsive. Once submitting my resume and cover letter, I received a phone call a few weeks later asking for an interview with the general manager and senior accountant. After the interview I was called back within 4 hours asking to come for a partner interview. Within 1 day of my partner interview I was offered a position with a contract given to me in one week. Weeks after I had signed and given my contract back I received a number of calls from other firms. However, due to the positive experience I had received I did not consider any of these, despite them initially being my first choice.
The process for me was a brief interview mainly focusing on my previous experience and a 'getting to know you' chat. There were some technical questions and a tour of the office.
I was not asked any of the technical questions, my interview was more like an informal chat between colleagues about accounting and job market.
I was interviewed by two directors and the general manager, all of which asked me an array of questions each

My process consisted of 2 interviews, one with HR and one with audit team leaders. There were no assessments.

What questions were you asked in your interviews?
The interview was more relaxed than I anticipated. Questions included - What did I know about Business Advisory? What do I enjoy doing in my spare time? Did I have any work experience? Why did I apply for William Buck? What I was looking for from an employer? All very simple questions that focused on more as me as a person rather than my technical knowledge.
Why are you looking for a job? How much money do you want? What are the small business CGT concessions?
How would I describe myself in a few words? What are the 3 most important things I am looking for in my next employer?
What I wanted from a job? My experience in the field? Where I saw myself in the future?
What industries are you interested in? What experience/skills do you bring, and how will you apply them to our firm? Why do you want to work for us?
My interviews weren't very technical, and were more to do with me as a person. It did include a few questions about what I thought the role would entail but nothing overly detailed.
I was asked questions about myself and the type of worker I was. What my plans or next step was after uni (e.g. CA program). I was also given the chance to ask questions which helped me gain a better understanding of the company I was applying to.
I was asked questions about my previous employment and my transition into the workforce.
I was asked about my work experience in my part time job and at vacation work at another firm; some general getting-to-know-you questions; and I was given information about the firm and the work I would be doing.
The interview was more conversational, less direct questions more topics explored.
About skill sets and help to determine personality and personal skills.
More general questions about myself and why I wanted to be an accountant etc.

Do you have any specific tips and advice for candidates applying to your company? How would you recommend they best prepare?
I think being relaxed really helped me. I think most people can be trained to do the job, and therefore personality is really important. I had some vacation work which I think did benefit me but they were more interested that I had worked through high school and uni and was able to balance my life. Researching the company and the division you're applying for is really important and makes it seem like you genuinely want to be there rather than applying for multiple grad jobs.
Do your research! Know who is going to interview you and do some background research into their business history and professional focus.
To be honest, energetic and willing to work hard
Do some research on the firm, and come into the interview knowing the services that the firm offers, and the types of clients that it services. If possible, reach out to an existing employee to talk.
My best advice would be really understand the role you're going for and try to get an understanding of what the job would consist of on a day to day basis.
Research the company but don't feel like you need to know the company's mission or details off by heart. Prepare some answers to standard interview questions, talking about yourself on the spot can be harder than it sounds.
Be prepared, but also be yourself in the interview. Its best if the employer can see your personality.
Show your personality in the interview, they have already read your CV.
Be yourself and personable, yet professional.
Be honest, know your strengths and weaknesses, do a bit of research about the company beforehand.
