About TasNetworks

TasNetworks came into being on July 1, 2014, following the merger of Aurora Energy’s distribution network (i.e. poles and wires) and Transend Networks (i.e. big towers and lines). The state-owned corporation is responsible for supplying power to a quarter of a million Tasmanian homes and businesses. TasNetworks also owns and operates telecommunication infrastructure to “enable safe and efficient operation of the electricity system”.

Your role

The position is primarily based in the Strategic Asset Management Business Unit, but there are opportunities to work in other business units as well. This is to support the career development of the graduate and the needs of TasNetworks.

The graduate will gain knowledge, skills, and practical experience in asset management information systems (including geospatial information systems) by the end of the placement. This will help them move to a suitable substantive position within the organization (or industry). The graduate will assist TasNetworks meet business objectives by undertaking projects and duties within various workgroups. This will be commensurate with the individual's developing knowledge and skills.

Throughout the program, graduates are offered unique opportunities to learn and excel in their day-to-day careers, engage with exceptional leaders and team members, build a network of colleagues (and friends!), and work with industry leaders across the state.

Training & development

The two-year program provides unparalleled business exposure, as you rotate through different areas of the business and continually challenge yourself. They will help you grow your skills through engaging and challenging projects and ongoing mentorship.  As part of the Graduate Program, TasNetworks Graduates engage with the community through the delivery of the STEAM Program. STEAM aims to encourage interest in the STEM disciplines and create opportunities and pathways for young Tasmanians. About you

To be successful in this role, you will be committed to the Graduate Program, whilst enhancing your core discipline skills and experience. You will have a continual safety focus and be adaptable and embrace ever-changing situations.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Computer Science, Information Systems or Spatial Science
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in small teams
  • Well-developed data extraction and analysis skills using a variety of tools
  • Ability to manage competing tasks and priorities
  • Ability to identify, analyse, prioritise and resolve complex problems.
  • Knowledge
  • Vocational experience in a similar industry/sector

Demonstrated skills in the following systems:

  • Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Visual Basic, C#, ASP.NET, HTML/CSS, XML/XSD/XSLT, and Javascript programming languages;
  • Microsoft .NET framework;
  • Knowledge and experience in building web applications, web services and Windows services; and
  • Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server development.
