Diageo is extremely performance-focussed, you don't get the politics here that you do elsewhere when it comes to promotions and succession planning. If you are performing in your role and have expressed interest in a new role or opportunity to your manager and HR, you will have every opportunity to get that job.
From my short experience, and speaking to colleagues, it does seem difficult for some employees to move up the ranks once they reach a mid-level role and are looking for a senior role.
It is quite a lean structure so it can be difficult, however if you are a strong performer the business will ensure you are giving the learning and development opportunities you need.
