DTP is committed to providing an inclusive workplace culture where our people are safe, diverse, engaged, valued and high-performing.

The department's commitment to Aboriginal self-determination is supported by a range of initiatives, outlined under the new Transport Portfolio Aboriginal Self-Determination Plan 2020-2024, which includes employment and procurement across the transport portfolio.

DTP’s Inclusion & Diversity Strategy 2020-2023 also outlines initiatives to attract and retain Aboriginal employees. These include:

  • Delivery of Indigenous cultural awareness training
  • Annual Aboriginal Staff Conference
  • Supporting special measures recruitment
  • Scholarship program for Aboriginal students
  • Participating in the VPS VET graduate program and other Aboriginal employment programs
  • Promoting key days including Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week
  • Aboriginal Staff Network to support Aboriginal staff
  • An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians Working Group for Aboriginal staff and allies that organises inclusion initiatives and events throughout the year.

The department has committed to Aboriginal workforce representation of 2 percent of by 2023.
