Cultural & Linguistic Diversity at Department of Transport and Planning

DTP is committed to providing an inclusive workplace culture where our people are safe, diverse, engaged, valued and high-performing.

The department is committed to the inclusion of staff from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds. 

DTP’s Inclusion & Diversity Strategy 2020-2023 outlines range of initiatives to support culturally and linguistically diverse staff in the workplace, including:

  • Delivery of cultural intelligence training
  • Promotion of key days such as Harmony Day, and Refugee Week
  • A Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Working Group which runs inclusion initiatives and events throughout the year and provides support and to staff identifying as culturally and linguistically diverse at DoT.

The department will release its new CaLD Inclusion Action Plan in 2021, which aims to promote culturally inclusive workplaces, support the provision of culturally responsive services for the Victorian community, and to eliminate racism.

The department has a leadership target for culturally diverse staff: 30% of CaLD people in leadership roles (VPS5 and above) by 2023.

Inclusion and diversity services are delivered across the department.

DTP’s Inclusion & Diversity Strategy 2020-2023 outlines the enterprise-wide advisory services provided across the department, including:

  • Support for employees
  • Tailored training, strategies and advice for groups, divisions, branches and teams
  • Business area advice
  • Community support
  • Inclusion fundamentals training (including unconscious bias, inclusive leadership, and bystander action).

Support and funding of the all-inclusive Employee Resource Group and our five working groups and ensuring accountability through the Inclusion & Diversity Council.

In addition to work to support our five priority groups, DTP also supports young people via targeted employment programs and support of the Young Professionals Network.
