Pros & Cons

  • Understanding leaders which support the needs of different individuals - either from arranging flexible work arrangements, giving opportunities to learn new things and even try work of other teams.
  • Team culture, diversity, cross disciplinary collaboration
  • The team that I work with are the best part of the job. Second would be the environment that we work in, it is dynamic, always changing in project objectives and requires new skills and space for growth within the team. My team is very flexible with working from different locations and I have enjoyed the level of flexibility.
  • Culture, people, and innovation.
  • The range of different types of projects i have the opportunity to work on and the willingness of my colleagues to help me in any capacity
  • Not enough crossover experiences with other parts of the transport business.
  • Large company - approvals & requests can move very slowly
  • Feeling a bit disconnected since my other team members are in another country, Lack of visibility
  • I do not necessarily have any criticisms towards anything at Stantec, but the usual things which are already under review like timesheets. responsiveness of IT or system software availability could be something that could be improved.
  • Project work requires really detailed timesheets

Strong sense of CSR with 'designing with communities in mind' as part of the company purpose. Each year the company runs a volunteering week where employees get paid up to 3 hours to do volunteering.

Satisfaction
7.9
Satisfaction
I have been through a two year graduate program and have been exposed to a variety of work which has been satisfying. I am a civil engineer, but the role of civil can vary depending on the lines of work. There is no fixed day - to - day, in design it may be doing calculations, marking up drawings, having discussions with other disciplines. Sometimes it can be modelling, and sometime project admin tasks land and site visits are needed to understand site conditions.

Office Work Environment
The office spaces, locations and facilities are generally good. Dress code is generally flexible but noting that a more professional dress code is preferred in the office for external meetings which is generally fine.

Recruitment

Recruitment
I applied online with resume / CV and had a fairly standard in-person interview and discussion. Equal amounts of technical and non-technical questions relevant to field of application. Be yourself, be present, and show that you are interested and keen to learn. As a graduate/undergrad the company doesn't expect you to know everything, and they will invest in you to become a better engineer. So, the main thing the employers are looking for is that you are interested and willing to learn and try new things.

Salary
The salary program is well suited for a graduate engineer. I like the social events (DPG). Just a few weeks ago, we had a painting session and we got to take home the painting. There's also an annual outing. Things like that are fun.

"Stantec has a formal grad program with competencies for progression to the next career level. They also have a 'Grad lab' - a couple of days of training for your first two years - soft skills and high level business training. Stantec also has regular 'lunch and learn' training seminars both online and in person, on a variety of topics that you can attend as you choose"

Environmental impact and suitability factors considered in office selections. Sustainability is part of our line of design work. Small office initiatives like coffee bean and newspaper for composting and recycling in place.
